Our all-natural Hestra Leather Balm is formulated to protect your sport gloves and is a great way to prevent leather from drying out. Prolongs the life, suppleness and water repellant properties of the leather. Apply as needed with a polishing cloth, rub in until the leather is saturated. Note that light leathers may darken somewhat. Hestra Leather Balm is a leather conditioner, it is not a dedicated leather waterproofing agent. We recommend only using our leather balm for our sport gloves in goat leather or cowhide leather. Other leathers such as deerskin, elk leather, peccary, carpincho and hairsheep which are more common in our fashion gloves are oftentimes not suitable to be treated with leather balm. These leathers do not absorb the balm very well and thus may leave a sticky surface and also cause the leather to look mottled with color variations.

5 tips for a long life

Hestra gloves are made to last. With some love and care they will last even longer. Good for you, good for the environment.

1) Grease the leather regularly and it will resist moisture, wear and tear better. The leather balm can make the leather darker, therefore we recommend you to try the leather balm on a hidden surface first. Moisten the leather a little first. Use a polishing cloth and rub in the grease until the leather is saturated. Do this in the evening and the grease is absorbed during the night. We primarily recommend leather balming sport gloves in goatskin and cowhide. Dress gloves and other leathers such as deerskin and elk leather may get mottled from leather balm.

2) If you have gloves with breathable materials like GORE-TEX, you should avoid silicone impregnation. It clogs the pores and reduces the material’s breathability.

3) With the carabiner clasp that comes with some models, you can easily attach the gloves to a backpack. In that way, you don’t risk losing them, and they can dry without losing shape.

4) Dyed leather may stain clothing when wet, so don’t place a wet glove on other garments. Choose a model with a natural leather color if you do not want to risk bleeding.

5) Gloves rarely get damaged while skiing. Instead, the edges of skis and boot buckles are normally the cause of damage to your gloves. Be careful when handling your skis or boots!
